Abstract

ABSTRACTThe transport of solute components in ground water takes place under the effects of convection, dispersion, and interactions between the stagnant water phase and the solid matrix. The inflow of solutes occurs in the form of local or diffuse sources. Among these, areal sources (precipitation) possess special importance in the recharging of ground water. Today, simulation of the process with multidimensional models is only possible with numerical methods. Since convective transport predominates in many cases, a one‐dimensional simulation scheme along the flow path is proposed for steady‐state ground‐water flow, which is suited to personal computers. This scheme represents the basis for the identification of migration parameters (inverse mass transport problem).
