Abstract

Port Logistics Park is a complex dynamic stochastic system. It consists of berths, containers, ships, yards, cranes, transportation machinery, roads, parking areas, vehicles, staff and other elements which constrain and interact with each other. Each of the operations within the port logistics park has the characteristics of being discrete and random. The ship arrival time, vehicle service time, facilities service time are all random and dynamic. Therefore, such a system is difficult to describe and evaluate by using a conventional single mathematical model. This thesis uses the Arena simulation software, combined with a loading and unloading system, for the port logistics park. It establishes a model of loading and unloading operations and sets the related parameters in order to simulate the loading and unloading system of the port logistics park. By analyzing the simulation results, the parameters are adjusted so that the waiting time and quantities are lower and the utilization rates of facilities are at a high level. At the same time, the total cost of the system is the lowest. The final objective is to work out the optimal loading and unloading system.
