Abstract

In this paper a novel method of ATP (Alternative Transients Program) simulation for single-pole auto-reclosing is introduced. This paper presents an investigation of single-pole auto-reclosing on HV transmission lines. By simulating real trapped charge, overvoltage profile is monitored. Most of the faults on HV transmission lines are single-pole to ground. In order to have a general overview of single-pole auto-reclosing and calculating overvoltages simulation should be performed. Using ATP software, single-pole auto-reclosing on two real 400 kV transmission lines is simulated and the results are discussed. Details of system modeling are outlined. The simulation method and modeling of a real single-pole auto-reclosing by ATP is presented in detail. Effects of transmission line length as well as number of circuits are analyzed. Effects of reclosing time on single-pole switching overvoltages are outlined. Differences between single-pole auto-reclosing at different phases due to position of conductors are also presented.
