Abstract

Fault current protection is a major issues in power quality. To mitigatethe increasing fault current issues, various techniques had been developed. The most straight forward way would be upgrading all the conductors, switchgear and protection devices in existing power systems to raise their fault current ratings and interrupting speed but this is expensive. Another is to replace all damage equipment, which is complicated and time consuming. Fault current level is confined to lower level of acceptable limit by using Fault Current Limiters (FCLs). This paper utilizes Non-Super Conducting Fault Current Limiter (NSFCL) with a control strategy to maintain the fault current. This gives an added advantage of improved voltage profile in faulty phase. The proposed technique, NSFCL has been studied and simulated in virtual environment provided by MATLAB Simulink.
