Abstract

We describe a simple iterative process in the frequency-wavenumber domain simulating ultra-deep-tow seismic data from conventional marine seismic streamer data. In each iterative step, new data are simulated as if recorded with an extra water column of streamer depth above the streamer. This process simulates data with the streamer at twice the depth of the previous step, without changing the distance of the streamer from the sea bottom, and shifts the downgoing waves further and further in time, while leaving the upgoing waves untouched. After a few iterations, the downgoing waves are shifted below the eventual target zone, leaving only the upgoing waves in the early part of the data, i.e. the data were receiver deghosted up to and beyond the target zone.
