Abstract

An efficient algorithm, called ZEROIN, which uses the techniques of bisection, inverse quadratic interpolation, and the secant process, is presented to calculate the modulus k of cnoidal waves when k < 0.99, and for solitary waves when k > 0.99. To simulate random deepwater waves which are transformed as they propagate shorewards a subprogram is used to simulate autocorrelated Rayleigh distributed variates for wave periods and deepwater wave heights.
