Abstract

Throughout the course of the nanoparticle synthesis, the surfactant determines the size and stability of the nanoparticles. This study serves to determine the specific nanoparticle-ligand electrostatic interaction. Monte Carlo simulations were conducted to investigate the stabilisation effect of an 11 aminoundecanoic acid (AUA) surfactant-chain on magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles. In the simulations, the AUA surfactant chain was adsorbed onto the surface of Fe3O4 nanoparticles with sizes in the range of 0.5nm to 2.9nm (Radius = 5.0Å to 14.5Å).
