Abstract

Roger Pinkham (rpinkham@stevens-tech.edu) writes was born on the coast of Maine of seafaring people. My father rowed a mile to the mainland and walked a further mile to high school. Thus education was a valued family treasure. From a child, working plane geometry problems on the sole of the family boat, until now, I have been blessed with a passion for mathematics which continues to fill me with delight. I have had the joy of a Ph.D. in mathematics from Harvard, a post doc at Princeton in statistics under John Tukey, and enumerable consulting jobs in industry puzzling over other peoples' problems.
