Abstract

A simplified physical model for hermetic scroll and reciprocating compressors was developed based on thermodynamic principles and was calibrated with experimental data from publication. The model is able to calculate mass flow rate, power and discharge temperature. The extrapolation capability of the proposed model was investigated by extending to rotary compressor and extrapolating the achieved model to predict the mass flow rate, power and discharge temperature at the conditions outside the given data range. In an addition, the model was studied by predicting mass flow rate, power and discharge temperature for other refrigerants while experimental data of one refrigerant is used for calibration to get fitting parameters. The model exhibited very good extrapolation capability.
