Abstract

A simplified statistical method for complex turbulent flows is developed in close relation to ensemble-mean compressible turbulence modeling. Using this method, various correlations appearing in the ensemble-mean equations for a compressible fluid are evaluated, and their relationship with the mean quantities and the turbulence properties characterizing compressible flow is examined. These results are discussed in light of the previous finding of the direct numerical simulation of compressible turbulence. This method is also applicable to complex turbulence phenomena like magnetohydrodynamic flow.
