Abstract

Induction motors consume most of the industrial power electricity, so it is very meaningful to improve the operation efficiency of induction motors. A simplified loss model efficiency optimization algorithm for vector control induction motor drives is proposed in this paper, in order to improve the operation efficiency of induction motors via the simplest algorithm and the least computation load. The loss model is established based on the mathematical model of induction motors which includes the iron loss, and the optimal excitation current corresponding to the maximum efficiency is derived and simplified. Unlike some existing efficiency optimization algorithms, the proposed efficiency optimization algorithm does not need to be switched on or off when dynamics occur, it will be effective whenever the induction motor runs. When vector control induction motor drives employ the proposed efficiency optimization algorithm, the speed regulation performance will be still satisfied with a little acceptable degradation. The simulation results and the experimental results show that the proposed efficiency optimization algorithm is correct, effective and feasible.
