Abstract

A perimembranous VSD with a maximal diameter ≤5 mm in infants <3 months of age is likely to close or be hemodynamically insignificant. Infants with a maximal defect size ≥6.5 mm will most likely require surgical closure. These sizes may be used as a simple rule of thumb to guide patient management and allow cost savings.
