Abstract

In distributed generation, a quadratic boost converter (QBC) finds wide application due to its unique characteristic of higher boost voltage with lower duty cycle. For dc- dc converter, output voltage regulation with current limiting capability is an important requirement. The peak current control (PCC) offers good current limiting capability with faster output voltage control. In this paper, the PCC of the QBC is explored which has two control loop: inner current loop and outer voltage loop. The aim of the study was to provide a simplified step-by-step outer loop controller design procedure for QBC. In this approach, the optimum value of outer loop controller gain was derived by utilizing the QBC model. The effectiveness of the derived controller parameter was tested in MATLAB/Simulink environment by providing a step change in: input voltage, magnitude of load current and reference output voltage.
