Abstract

The narrow viewing angle (VA) and low contrast ratio (CR) are two of the problems associated with liquid crystal display (LCD). A novel optimization method for the LCD system based on simplex algorithm is demonstrated. A LCD model is constructed using two negative O-plate films, LC cell and one negative C-plate film. The compensator thickness and tilt angel can be successfully used as optimization variables to compensate for narrow VA and low CR. Results show that this approach is faster and more accurate than other approaches. In addition, we show that the oblique leakage light of the dark state is reduced and that high CR, wide VA are obtained.
