Abstract

The hydrazone moiety is a major function in medicinal chemistry because of its wide range of pharmacological applications. Actual synthetic procedures usually involve harsh conditions, tedious workup and toxic solvents. Here, we report a simple procedure for the synthesis of hydrazones by condensation of phenyl/hydroxyl phenyl hydrazides with various substituted aldehydes using water as solvent. Products were obtained in 95–99% yields in less than 1 min at room temperature. The synthesized compounds were characterized by melting points, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance (13C-NMR), and liquid chromatography–mass spectroscopy (LC–MS) and tested for their quorum quenching activity against Chromobacterium violaceum (C. Violaceum) CV026 as a bio-indicator strain.
