Abstract

Optical engineering is a discipline that specializes in the design of optical instruments that use light to view or analyze objects. Telescopes, microscopes, camera lenses, and slit lamps are examples of such devices. All optical instruments have the potential to combine optical elements such as mirrors, lenses, prisms, and refracting surfaces, as well as mechanical and electronic components such as digital image detectors.
