Abstract

This paper proposes a quick method to calculate pressure fluctuation when a train passes. The method is applicable to design of train nose configuration. It takes into consideration only the distribution of cross-sectional area of the train nose as the effect of a train, which is represented as a line monopole souroe concentrated on its axis. The governing equation is expressed in an integral form by using the Green's function. The results obtained by this method were compared with those by a three-dimensional boundary element method (BEM) to confirm the accuracy of the proposed method. The calculation point to be compared is at 12.5 m distant from the train axis. The results by this method were in excellent agreement with those by BEM with 2 to 3% errors. Moreover, we expanded the method to include the effect of a pressure barrier. Comparison with those by BEM showed moderately good agreement with 5 to 30% errors.
