Abstract
This paper compares some elementary theories of the electron-injecting contact made by a metal to an insulator having larger work function. The subject is usually introduced with a one-band model including only electronic space charge. It is shown that a two-band model is preferable physically, and scarcely more complicated mathematically, and so provides a more satisfactory starting point.
