Abstract

Smart application of piezoelectric material is now well established through numerous studies. Piezoelectric material is used for sensing and monitoring purposes by coupling to the main structure with piezo effect of generating current upon application of stress. Functionally graded material posses smooth property transition between two different materials unlike laminated composite. Coupling of piezoelectric layers to plate of functionally graded material increases complexities from analysis point especially with analytical solution. The objective of the present study is to develop a simple mathematical model for free vibration analysis of a functionally graded plate which can be further employed for smart application of piezoelectric material. Plate theory used here is based on four variable approaches with two models with and without considering the effect of thickness stretching. To consider the combination of simply supported and clamped boundary conditions through analytical solution beam functions are used.
