Abstract
A simple, continuous flow He cryostat for luminescence spectroscopy of solutions and crystals is described. Liquid helium is introduced into the evaporator through a throttle valve which allows the temperature to be set within the range of 3-300K. An additional heater in the He transfer line provides stable temperature control in the critical temperature range of 4-8K. Heat contact between sample and cell can be effected using He gas at different pressures. The sample cell is fitted with a high vacuum seal which can be easily dismantled. The seal remains effective with repeated cooling cycles at He temperature.
