Abstract

Simon is a Senior Lecturer in Radiotherapy and Deputy to the Head of School of Radiography at the University of Central England (UCE) in Birmingham. He qualified in June 1980 and later gained his Higher Diploma in 1986, then undertook a Masters Degree in Public Sector Management in 1994 at the University of Aston. He has published several articles and also presented at conferences.After qualification Simon took up a basic grade radiographer post at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, later reaching Superintendent III grade having mainly technical responsibilities in the radiotherapy department. After 16 years as a clinical radiographer Simon took up a Senior Lecturer position in Radiotherapy at UCE in 1996, helping to establish the Degree programme at the University and later becoming the Course Director in 2000. His academic and teaching interests have mainly centred on technology and radiobiology, but also include management and an interest in computing which has been incorporated in his teaching methods. Simon has refereed several papers for the Journal of Radiotherapy in Practice and Radiography.In addition to his academic duties he has a role in Quality Assurance within the Faculty of Health and Community Care, he is also trained to undertake Major Review with the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) and is a Visitor for the Health Professions Council (HPC). During his leisure time he enjoys listening to music and playing the alto saxophone.
