Abstract
This paper provides a mechanistic model for the formation of CuInSe 2 and CdS thin films by chemical spray pyrolysis. We demonstrate similarities between the two mechanisms based on our work and draw support from the literature. It is shown that the semiconducting thin films are produced by a stepwise decomposition of metal-urea-like complexes at the growth interface and conclude that stability of the sulfur-and selenium-containing ligands determine the minimum substrate temperature for deposition.
