Abstract

Six Ag(I) coordination compounds containing pyridyl carboxylates [namely of trans-3-(3′-pyridyl) acrylic acid (3-PAH), trans-3-(4′-pyridyl) acrylic acid (4-PAH), and 4-trans-2-(pyrid-4-yl-vynyl) benzoic acid (Hpvba)] and phosphine ligands [namely triphenylphosphine, 1,1-bis-(diphenylphosphino) methane (dppm), 1,2-bis-(diphenylphosphino) ethane (dppe) and 1,3-bis-(diphenylphosphino) propane (dppp)] are described. By varying the combination of silver salts and bridging ligands, we have synthesized 0D, 1D, 2D and 3D architectures of silver(I) coordination compounds and polymers. The coordination environments and geometries around Ag(I) are highly dependent on the coordination mode of carboxylate ‘O’ (whether monodentate, μ1,1 or μ1,3). On the other hand, the dimensionality of the coordination polymers depends on the bridging diphosphine ligands and shape of the pyridyl carboxylates.
