Abstract

The effect of silver nanoparticles in the lasing behaviour of a dye doped hollow polymer optical fibre under pulsed laser excitation has been investigated. Silver nanoparticles were prepared by Polyol method. The optical and structural characterisation of Silver nanoparticles has been done using absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy as well as Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The lasing characteristics of the RhodamineB doped hollow polymer optical fibre and RhodamineB (RhB) doped hollow polymer optical fibre with Silver nanoparticle- Rhodamine6G (Rh6G) fillingwere studied. It was observed that the Q-factor has been increased and lasing threshold has been decreased in the RhodamineB doped hollow polymer optical fibre filled with Silver nanoparticle-Rhodamine6G mixture.
