Abstract

In the current study, silver nanoparticles doped polymethylmethacrylate (Ag/PMMA) nanocomposite was created not using any enzyme, checked for glucose detection. Firstly, chemical reduction method was employed to make the silver nanoparticles and secondly, the silver nanoparticles were mixed with PMMA via solution casting and sonication method to obtain the binary nanocomposite of Ag/PMMA. The morphology imaging and physical properties of Ag/PMMA nanocomposite were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). In order to build an electrochemical sensor, a glassy carbon (GC) electrode was altered with Ag/PMMA, and our findings showed that the custom-made electrode displayed electrocatalytic performance for the detection of glucose (C6H12O6) in 0.1 M solution of phosphate buffer (PBS, pH = 7.0). Voltammetric and amperometric sensors for the electrochemical detection of glucose were created based on these altered electrodes. The range of the voltammetric sensor was linear (from 0.1 to 1 mM) and high sensitivity of 41 µA mM−1 cm−2.
