Abstract

Canine distemper is caused by the canine distemper virus (CDV), a paramyxovirus of the genus Morbillivirus, with a worldwide distribution. Canine distemper is a multisystem disease, potentially fatal. Affected organisms may develop clinical or subclinical infections, among them respiratory, gastrointestinal and of the nervous system. In the present work, we use a veterinary pharmaceutical composition of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) for the treatment of distemper in dogs with neurological and non-neurological symptoms. AgNPs treatment of animals with non-neurological distemper provides a very high rate of recovery without sequelae. However, in dogs with neurological symptoms, AgNPs treatment was not able to reverse the disease.
