Abstract

Ni plating of Ag-In-Cd control rod alloys to a thickness of 0.005 to 0.05 in. is found to yield a durable coating that does not undercut. The use of Ag-In-Cd control rods in the Yankee power reactor is reviewed, with attention to their endurance, their lifetime with respect to core lifetime, their worth as a function of irradiation dose, their surface absorption as a function of reactor energy density, and the dependence of reactivity on the total control rod surface area/reactor volume ratio.
