Abstract

The Silk Road Tourism Programme (hereinafter referred to as “the Programme”) was initiated by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). By fully mobilising the relevant resources, it aims to strengthen international cooperation and realise sustainable development of the tourist industry in the Silk Road countries. Specifically, the Programme has the following three main objectives: (1) to maximise the effect of tourism development in Silk Road countries so as to benefit them; (2) to stimulate investment to protect the natural/cultural heritage along the Silk Road; and (3) to vigorously promote greater cooperation among the Silk Road countries/areas to realise seamless linking of the travel experience along the Silk Road and construct various high-quality tourism projects.
