Abstract

In September, 2013, the Chinese President Xi Jinping in his speech at Nazarbayev University in Astana announced a new Chinese initiative on Silk Road Economic Belt. The main purpose of the project is to create a new economic and investment space, which would include China, the countries of Asia-Pacific Region, Eastern Europe as well as Russia and other CIS countries. The economies of countries of the area are expected to take about 29% of the global GDP in the next 10 years with the trade between China and countries along the belt and road to double. It will increase the demand for passenger and freight transportation systems expansion. In view of this, the space is intended to contribute to the infrastructure development as well as to the institutional basis establishment for a long-term international commercial projects implementation in China's strategic partner countries.
