Abstract

Silicon strip detector is an excellent technology for X-ray imaging and spectroscopic applications thanks to good energy resolution due to a small energy band gap and good detection efficiency up to 20 keV due to a thick detector. This chapter describes the basic principles, structures, properties, radiation damage, and expected performances of silicon strip detectors. Silicon strip detectors are suitable for X-ray applications which require good timing resolutions and detection efficiencies with moderate energy resolutions. Double-sided silicon strip detectors utilized in two major X-ray missions demonstrate performance achievable with this technology.KeywordsSemiconductor detectorSilicon detectorSilicon strip detectorDouble-sided silicon strip detectorRadiation sensorX-ray detectorGamma-ray detector
