Abstract

This paper presents our recent progress with the development of silicon (Si) photonic devices utilizing Silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafers. Si-photonics has emerged as attractive technology for developing innovative and inexpensive optoelectronic devices. Si-photonics enables us to optical components small due to high index contrast of silicon and SiO2. Therefore, ultra-small electrical and optical components can be fabricated and integrated on SOI wafers. And Si-photonic devices will have a lot of applications in telecommunications, optical interconnections and recently in quantum information systems such as quantum key distribution.
