Abstract

A review is given on our recent progresses in silicon nanophotonic devices for optical modulation and switching, which are key elements in a photonic networks-on-chip. High-speed on-chip optical modulation is the key to generate high-bit-rate optical signal for high-capacity optical interconnects, while optical switching is vital for realizing reconfigurable photonic systems. Here we give a review for highspeed LiNbO 3 optical modulators on silicon and novel silicon photonic switches with low random phase errors.
