Abstract

A way was found to extend the life of the lamp-associated components on bubble chamber film projectors in use at the University of Colorado. The method chosen has the further advantage of extending actual lamp life through the gradual manner in which the lamp is turned on. The circuit has two high current silicon controlled rectifiers which serve as switches for the lamp current. The rectifiers are phase-controlled by a simple multivibrator which can be adjusted to suit the operator. A complete schematic diagram is given, and difficulties with SCR circuits are discussed.
