Abstract

1. Improvement in container sealing for siliciding molybdenum in powder mixtures (using a threaded steel plug) leads to an increase in silicide layer formation rate and increases uniformity of results for layer thickness and heat resistance. Therefore, under production conditions it is recommended that siliciding be performed in special sealed furnace autoclaves with pressure control for the gas phase by means of reduction valves. 2. Heat resistance of silicide layers on molybdenum depends on their thickness and test temperature, and it is practically independent of impregnation conditions. Heat resistance increases with increasing layer thickness, particularly at 1100 and 1200°C.
