Abstract

The silicate micro-spheres (SMS) were modified with YPO4:Pr3+ phosphor particles by a sol–gel method. Besides good light, diffusion property, the modified SMS augmented blue-light down-conversion function. The structure analyses showed that YPO4:Pr3+ particles were modified on the SMS by Y–O bond and YPO4:Pr3+ was well crystalline after annealing at 900°C. Photoluminescence test revealed that the emission peaks of SMS–YPO4:Pr3+ sample were at 529, 595, 617 and 648nm under excitation at a wavelength of 450nm. The SMS–YPO4:Pr3+ sample emitted red light under a blue LED lamp. The polycarbonate/SMS–YPO4:Pr3+ composites possess good light diffusion (78% of transmittance and 91% of haze) and blue-light down-conversion properties.
