Abstract
It is possible to visit Nova Scotia, become intoxicated with the mystifying shores of the Atlantic, enchanted with the spectacular autumn transformation of its maple foliage, yet remain oblivious to the fact that amongst its rocky terrain, descendants of the earliest Canadians of African descent are here in residence. There are African Nova Scotian communities scattered throughout the length and breadth of the province, many of which are hidden, like dirty secrets, far away from public scrutiny. Even today, these communities exist under extremely adverse economic and social conditions.
