Abstract

This article is a discussion of the concept of silence in connection with memories and migration —past, present and future. Silence is not only an active concept in special areas as in extraordinary events as Holocaust and migration. Silence is also an important concept in everyday life when we face areas where words are limited and cannot explain our feelings. Or when we learn to count or speak another language. The silence appears when the learning activity is finished and the language or mathematics is integrated knowledge. Silence appears in our everyday life without thinking about it. In extraordinary events the silence is more related to areas that we do not want to recall or think about since they connect us with different feelings. This article will move the focus on silence from the micro to the macro level and challenge the responsibility of the State.
