Abstract

The histories of three siblings suffering from apparent pyridoxine dependency are described. The last born infant was successfully treated at 3 hours of age with the exclusive use of pyridoxine. Review of the available literature indicates that this is the earliest example of such therapy. The three infants showed similar signs of distress which have not been previously described. It is recommended that when such cases are anticipated or suspected that large doses of pyridoxine be given to the mother at term and during labor. The importance of a diagnostic trial of pyridoxine therapy in cases of idiopathic neonatal seizures cannot be over-emphasized.
