History of American Egyptology though more prosaic, gives a somewhat better idea of its scope than its title, which author explains in his dedication: 'To Memory of James H. Breasted, George A. Reisner, and Herbert E. Winlock, who showed Signs and Wonders in Land of Egypt. The volume, however, covers much more ground than even subtitle suggests. Its great value is that it gives historical and political background of study of ancient Egypt and to a certain extent that of its more easterly neighbors by all nations whose scholars, collectors, and dilettanti have been attracted to this fascinating field.
