Abstract

This paper reported that functionalization of carbon nanotube (CNT) nanopaper with beta-cyclodextrins (β-CD) enhanced the thermo-mechanical properties and shape recovery of shape memory polymer (SMP) nanocomposite. The functionalized CNT nanopaper showed a remarkable capability to enhance interfacial bonding strength between SMP matrix and the cyclodextrin molecules, where the inclusion complex was formed by interaction of the β-CD with epoxy-based SMP matrix. Electrically induced shape recovery behavior of the nanocomposite were characterized, and a high efficiency of shape recovery of SMP nanocomposite incorporated with the CNT-β-CD nanopaper was demonstrated.
