Abstract

in overall survival between undiscovered (8.83 years) and discovered (10.19 years) (p < .001), which remained significant when stratified across clinical N1-N2c disease. Conclusions: TORS is an effective procedure to locate the primary tumor in patients with squamous cell carcinoma of unknown primary. Bilateral base of tongue resection should be considered as part of the examination under anesthesia for these patients, particularly if tonsils are absent. Identification of the primary tumor in these patients is associated with improved overall survival. These findings suggest that a prospective clinical trial is warranted to confirm these preliminary observations. Author Disclosure: U. Duvvuri: None. J.K. Byrd: None. K. Davis: None. R.L.
