Abstract

Objective To study the significance of the expression of high mobility group box-1 (HMGB-1) and T-cell lymphoma invasion and metastasis 1 (Tiam1) in non-small cell lung cancer tissues. Methods Fifty-one cases of non-small cell lung cancer were chose as the research objects.Cancerous tissues were enrolled into the observation group and adjacent tissues as the control group.Tissue HMGB-1 and Tiam1 expression levels were determined by immunohistochemical staining. Results HMGB-1 was mainly expressed in the nucleus and cytoplasm of cancer cells, stromal cells nucleus and cytoplasm, showed pale yellow to brown color. The positive expression in the observation group was 70.1% (36/51),and in the control group was 7.8% (4/51),there was significant difference between the two groups (x2 =9.27,P < 0.05).Tiam1 positive staining was in the cytoplasm and cell membrane, showed yellow, brown or tan color, the positive expression of Tiam1 in the observation group was 66.7% (34/51),the positive expression in the control group was 5.9% (3/51),there was significant difference between the two groups (x2 =10.36,P < 0.05).The lung tissue HMGB-1 and Tiam1 expression levels were not correlated with gender, histological type, tumor differentiation degree (P > 0.05),but were closely related with TNM stage, lymph node metastasis, recurrence (P < 0.05).Conclusions HMGB-1 and Tiam1 expression levels in non-small cell lung cancer were high, and they can predict the prognosis of patients. Key words: Non-small cell lung cancer; High mobility group box-1 (HMGB-1) ; T-cell lymphoma invasion and metastasis 1 (Tiam1)
