Abstract

For the Kingdom of Hungary and the whole middle-European territory the establishment of the University of Trnava meant a huge shift from medieval scholastic education to modern education. The University was established by Bishop Peter Pazmany in 1635. By request of Pazmany himself, the University of Trnava was administered by the members of The Society of Jesus. Printed literature was of great importance when spreading Counter-Reformation ideas and educational pursuits. Production of the university academic press corresponded with aims of the University and with the efforts of the Jesuits to increase the number of Hungarian Catholic inhabitants.
