Abstract

Until now efforts to obtain an early prognosis in patients with acute traumatic brain lesions have been mainly based on the neurological condition and on metabolic parameters such as blood gases and acid-base values. Moreover during recent years long-term intracranial pressure measurement has become a predominant clinical topic. The significance of intracranial pressure increase with regard to the prognosis of patients with acute brain lesions, however, has until now been insufficiently assessed.
