Abstract

We have conducted numerical calculations describing photorefractive two beam coupling under high gain conditions and compared them with experimental results generated in our laboratory. A complete modeling of the photorefractive rate equations, which generalizes the modeling to include nonlinear terms and relaxes the non-depleting pump approximation, demonstrates a memory effect in the time dependence of the two beam coupling gain. This memory effect shows that time dependence of the two beam coupling gain is characterized by an `S' curve. In addition, the nonlinear terms contribute a tail in the growth of the two beam coupled signal which results in predicted gains about 10% higher than expected for the linear model. Experimental results are shown to agree with the modeling.
