Abstract

Normally, the activated protein C has a protective role in sepsis, but the mechanism has not been known. Riewald et al. find that the thrombin receptor (protease activated receptor, or PAR1) is the target for activated protein C signaling. This mechanism provides insights into the signaling pathway of immune modulatory chemokines that control the host defense system in sepsis. M. Riewald, R. J. Petrovan, A. Donner, B. M. Mueller, W.
