Abstract

A new method for signal shaping in optical wideband transmission systems is proposed. Instead of building external electrical filters for spectral shaping of the modulating signal the inherent lowpass property of counterpropagating optical and electrical signals in a LiNbO 3 Mach-Zehnder intensity modulator is used. The presented experimental results for the generating of optical duobinary signals indicate the usefulness of this method.
