Abstract

As multiple Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) such as GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and Compass are all in service, the spectrum resource of the radio-navigation satellite service is getting scarce, therefore, the effectively using of spectrum and GNSS compatibility becomes a matter of great concern. Alternate Binary Offset Carrier (AltBOC) is an optimized modulation method which transforms two different signals on its different main lobes of spectrum that could utilize the spectrum effectively. After Galileo E5 signal, Compass Phase III (CP III) B2 is the second signal that uses AltBOC modulation. This paper presents the theory of AltBOC modulation and implements few schemes of constant envelope AltBOC for CP III B2 signal. It also discusses certain outstanding characteristics of AltBOC such as code tracking performance, anti-multipath interference, wide Gaber bandwidth, and low d istortion at transmission in h igh-power amp lifier. And compatib ility of CP III B2 AltBOC signal is further analyzed. In simulation section, the compatibility assessment between GPS L5C and CP III B2 AltBOC signal at worldwide geometry locations is carried out and presented with some new results. Simulation results reveal that basic performance of signal and compatibility assessment result both should be taken into account during signal modulation design in current multiple GNSS environment.
