Abstract

A new high-speed aeronautical digital airport communication system called AeroMACS (Aeronautical Mobile Airport Communication System) is currently being considered. We experimentally evaluate AeroMACS signals from transmitting system on a tower to receiving system on a bus. We measure RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) and RCE (Relative Constellation Error) of the receiving signals. They can be decoded in the most of airport area except for blind area from the transmitting system. We also analyze RSSI distribution in the airport in comparison with a computer simulation. Therefore, AeroMACS can cover the entire airport with only one base station of 1W output with a good installation location.
