Abstract

The Revista de Obras Publicas, founded in 1853 and published practically without interruption ever since, was the idea of a group of young civil engineers. From this time on the journal has served as a constant reference of the science and technique behind Spanish public works. The Asociacion de Ingenieros de Caminos was responsible for editing the journal up to 1923 when it was transferred to the Escuela Especial de Ingenieros de Caminos, and, since 1992 the journal has come under the auspices of the Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos Canales y Puertos with the support of both of these institutions. The journal comes out every month in traditional paper format together with a digital version and covers the civil engineering world with constant focus on the innovations appearing in the sector. The following study may be seen as a synopsis of the main articles published throughout the nineteen and twenty centuries, complete with subject grouped opinions and descriptions of the advances in Spanish infrastructures over these two periods.
